About Trip:
A visit to the Borgo di Rocca Imperiale begins with a visit to the Castello Svevo: accompanied by qualified tourist and archaeological guides, you will have the opportunity to discover this architectural marvel and to deepen your knowledge of the Middle Ages, analyzing the great themes that have distinguished it: feudalism and Frederick II of Swabia, the evolution of military architecture between 1200 and 1500, the art of war, daily life in castles and noble residences.
The pleasant walk in the historical center takes place through the most suggestive and panoramic alleys of the village, paying attention to the small historical and artistic jewels of Rocca Imperiale. During the tour you can admire the poetic stelae of the "Il Federiciano" poetry contest and visit the five churches of the village: the little intramoenia del Rosario church (15th century), rich in wooden sculptures of the Neapolitan school; a few meters further south you can reach the Chapel of San Giovanni Battista; the 18th century Mother Church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta; the Carmine chapel; finally, the church of Sant'Antonio da Padova, built entirely by the Franciscan Friars Minor or Observant Friars.
After a stop (optional) for lunch with the opportunity to taste the typical dishes of the local tradition, you can go to the Wax Museum, housed in the ancient Monastery of the Observant Friars. The location offers a sensational and evocative atmosphere thanks to the presence of elements of mysticism, age and the spectacular combination of the sacred and the profane. Between the walls of what was once a place of prayer and worship, you can breathe a transcendental air with statues that evoke an almost human contact.
This day of experience in the medieval village of Rocca Imperiale ends with a visit to a lemon production company; this area is the most important in the entire province of Cosenza. You can visit in person the places where the processing and transformation of the IGP lemon of Rocca Imperiale take place.
